ICC PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR - 2020

Indian Cultural Centre under the aegis of Embassy of India, Qatar is pleased to invite all Indians residing in Qatar with a valid Qatar residence permit to the ICC Photography Contest, ICC Photographer of the Year – 2020.

 

ICC Photography Contest is divided into six (6) categories - Exploring Qatar, Qatar expressions, Qatar events, Back to Nature, Indo Qatar links and Iconic Structure. First three categories are open to all ages and all sorts of images including captured using mobile acceptable. The Next three are for amateur or professional photographers above 12 years of age and captured using DSLR. All photos are to be taken in Qatar.

 

Rules and regulations:

Six categories for Indians living in Qatar with a resident permit:

First three for general all ages and all sorts of images including captured using mobile acceptable.

1. Exploring Qatar - architectural highlights or city scape

2. Qatar expressions - Celebrations / life / sports in Qatar

3. Qatar events - World cup 2022 and related events

 

Next three for Amateur, professional photographers above 12 years, DSLR captured images.

4. Back to Nature - Natural beauty of Qatar.

5. Indo Qatar links - cultural relations or celebrations (collage of images) or Portraits of Indians in their working habitat (series of 5 recommended) / sports activities. Note, all photos are to be taken in Qatar.

6. Iconic Structure - A set of five images which tells a story about any significant architecture in Doha, Qatar - the city of lights (series).

 

Deadline of submission – extended to – 07th December 2020.

Winners will be declared on 18 December 2020.

 

All entries to the competition are free.

 

Basic Submissions Guidelines for Photographs:-

1. A person can submit only one entry per each of the six (6) categories.

 

2. By submitting an entry to the competition, the contestant confirms that the submission is his/her own Original Work and ICC photography club shall not be responsible for any copyright infringement claims made by any other party (ies).

 

3. Late entry of submissions will not be accepted once the deadline, of submission is passed.

 

4. Photos submitted for category 4, 5 & 6 must be at least 3000 pixels (around 10 inch or 25.4 cm) on the longer side.

 

5. Category 1-3 images should be no larger than 10 MB. Photos must be preferably in JPEG format. Photographs shall be mailed to icc.photographer.2020@gmail.com with your name, Qatar ID copy, contact details including email, and mobile number and a brief write up in less than 200 words about the photographer and the image.

 

6. A3 size images for category 3 to 6 shall be mailed to icc.photographer.2020@gmail.com with your name, Qatar ID copy, contact details including email, and mobile number with a brief writeup about the photographer and the photo in less than 400 words.

 

7. Each entry shall be sent as separate email with subject mentioning your name, Competition Category title, contact details with all attachments including valid ID copy.

 

8. Participants in category 3 to 6, whose photos are shortlisted will be contacted and they should submit within 7 days from the date which email was send a A3 size print in photopaper in a sealed cover, with the contestant name, contact details including email and mobile number. The contestants shall also submit the RAW files, if not submitted the entry will be disqualified.

 

9. ICC photography club reserves the right to use any photograph (s) submitted for the contest to be displayed or published, without the expressed written permission of the participant. ICC photography club may use the photograph in publications or other media material produced including but not limited to brochures, invitations, books, newspapers, magazines, television, websites, etc.

 

10. Basic editing, including color enhancement, the use of filters, and cropping of the Photo(s) are only acceptable, these shall in no way affect the authenticity and /or genuineness of the Photo(s).

 

11. Advanced editing, e.g. used to create illusions, deceptions and / or manipulations, and the adding and removing of significant elements which alters the authenticity of the frame is not acceptable.

 

12. Photos that portray or otherwise include inappropriate and/or offensive content, including provocative nudity, violence, human rights and/or environmental violation, and/or any other contents deemed to be contrary to the law, religious, cultural & moral traditions and practices of Qatar, are strictly prohibited and will be immediately discarded.

 

13. The submitted images need to be taken within a year of their entry.

 

14. Judge’s decision shall be final and will not be subject to any appeal.

 

15. Entries for category 4 to 6 shall be judged by experienced professional photographers and the factors considered shall be:

  •     a. Artistic approach
  •     b. Composition / Lighting / Exposure / Focus
  •     c. Technique used

 

16. For category 1 to 3 the key criteria for selection shall be:

     

  • Relevance to the Theme
  • Creativity (How the photographer showed some creative thoughts. How the subject matter is pictured in a unique and interesting way)
  • Overall impact (Whether the photo was able to grab and hold the viewers’ attention. Is there a “wow” factor)
